Stuff I actually said out loud at work yesterday: "The letter J. Justice League is brought to you by the letter J and by the number green.... See! See what working here does to my brain!!"

So, the Sleep Schedule Operation is not going as planned. I was in bed before 11 last night... and couldn't fall asleep until after 2.

I had my snack, and my reading, and listened to my soothing CD... and tossed and turned... and sang the first quarter of RENT in my head to keep from thinking about all sorts of others thing... and tossed and turned.... and got up to use the bathroom and put on some lotion because it was hot and I was itchy, and turned off my alarm for the morning, and put the soothing CD on again... and tossed and turned... and finally drifted off.

And woke up at 11 AM after many strange and interesting dreams (ripped off in large part from books I've been reading, but oh well. I could still make a lot of money if I could bottle the darn things). And actually felt AWAKE for the first time in days. *grump*

It's amazing how I only notice depression when it lifts a bit. Apparently, I've been largely in a funk for quite some time now. I only realized this a few days ago when I suddenly snapped out of it and did a bit of job hunting and started seriously considering selling my crafts, instead of just sinking into hopelessness at the very idea. I'm still a long way from OK, but I think I'm doing a little better than I was.

If I'm lucky, I may get to see some fireworks tonight when I get off work! And get to sleep afterward.

We watched "Gran Torino" last night. It's an awesome movie, although it should be rated NC17 for thematic content. [info]dreams_cametrue , the DVD extras made me think of you-- it's all stuff about classic cars and the guys who love them. And of course, the movie made me think of [info]the_pretend_me  as well-- for obvious reasons!

Do you generally have trouble getting your sleeping hours in sync with the working world? I ask because this has been a big problem for me for years. Left to my own devices, without a partner to lure me to bed or a job to get up for, I can easily get into a pattern of going to bed at dawn and sleeping half the next day. (This happened during 3 years of unemployment earlier this decade.)

Still don't have a gf, but I've had a job since 2006 - yet I'm still struggling to get to bed at a decent hour on work nights. I average about 6 hours of sleep per night which is nowhere near enough for me. (With my happy pills I need closer to 9 hrs/night.) So I spend the work week exhausted, and make up for it on weekends by sleeping extra.

Every morning I tell myself I'm going to go to bed at a decent hour that night (it's kind of like drinker's remorse the morning after a bender). But that night, by the time I'm ready for bed, it's often after 2 AM.

I don't know if that's your problem or if you have other sleep issues, but it's been really hard to change.

I'm glad to hear you liked this. I have this DVD right now from Netflix, so I'll probably watch it in the next couple of days. I really wasn't sure whether this was going to be a positive movie about people getting past racial barriers and dealing with inequalities, or if it was going to be just another sensationalized gun fest. You never know with Clint.

Not only that, but thanks to [info]padparadscha, I now know that there's an actual medical term for it: "Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome." As far as I can tell, the best treatment is to work nightshifts.

I also do tend to need more sleep than the average person, for whatever reason. Being on antidepressants helps a bit with that problem, but also tends to give me insomnia. When I'm depressed, I can and do spend more than 12 hours asleep at a time. Also not helpful on the job front, let alone the issue of a personally satisfying life.

Uh-huh. It's definitely the first. Don't be put off by his character at the beginning. Also, be prepared to cry. I did.

It's funny, I notice my depression whenever it worsens. I never notice it when I get better.

I sympathize with you on the sleeping schedule. I've been sick the last couple of days though, so I think that's part of the reason why I sleep for 15 hours straight.

You deserve every inch of sleep you can get, girl. You work way too hard. Hope you feel better soon!

My wife cringed at the meanness and rampant profanity of Gran Torino but I loved the message. And yes, I cried at the end also. At its core it's a really sweet movie about two different cultures, neither of whom seem to really fit in any more, and how they can find common ground through old-fashioned human decency, kindness, and understanding.

I saw it in the theater, is it worthwhile to rent the DVD just for the extras?

I'm glad you're feeling better, hon.

I cringed a bit too. But it was worth it.

Not sure if you should bother renting the video for the extras-- probably not. They're pretty short. But if the video shows up at your library, borrow it. I think you'd get a kick out of listening to these guys talk about why they love cars so much.

... For the record, my first response was "What does 3 have to do with the Justice League?"

I liked Gran Torino--I guessed his plan before the ending, but it was still pretty good.
